o Have Public Liability Insurance ($5 Million min)

o Don't always take the lowest quote, check details of work within the quotes and don't be afraid to ask questions such as: Is this the total price? If further work is required, obtain further written quotation to cover that work.
Will you be following through with a clean up? What is the start date and what is finish date?
o Be wary of door knockers these are generally ‘fly by nighters' and prey on customer's fear of trees to obtain work. If choosing a door knocker, make sure they follow the mentioned criteria and have a fixed contact address, are working within the confines of the Office of Fair Trading and advertise. ie Yellow Pages.
o Do they Observe OH&S practices outlined by Work Place Health and Safety Queensland?(Provide safety signs and protective equipment)
o Have a holistic approach to tree work and can explain the reasons why things are proposed to be done.
o Trees with hollows or other likely habitat may need further assessment by an ecologist or wildlife specialist.
Arborists should have copies of their Qualifications and Certificate of Currency (Insurance) when quoting and performing jobs.
The QAA supports all tree workers who have become members and have received and are expected to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Practices given to them by this association. This does not necessarily mean the QAA is recommending or endorsing any arborist to the public. It is your discretion to choose which Arborist you feel is the best person for your job.
